It was inevitable and one of the least favorite duties of a head coach. The Cavaliers have started to reduce their training camp roster by waiving guard Kelenna Azubuike and centers Obinna Ekezie and Jahidi White.
Azubuike played in five preseason games with averages of 7.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game. Ekezie averaged 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10.7 minutes per game in six preseason games. White played in three preseason games averaging 3.7 points and 2.0 rebounds in 6.7 minutes per game.
There are 15 players remaining on the Cavaliers roster. All teams are required to reduce their training camp rosters to a maximum of 12 active players by 6 p.m. Monday. The NBA has created an “inactive list” on which teams will be allowed to keep up to three additional players. Also this season, NBA teams will be affiliated with teams in the NBA Developmental League and will have the option of sending players to the “minors” if they so desire.
